The success strory of the Kühne brand is unique and is based on nearly 300 years of experience in producing finely seasoned foods.
Join us on a brief journey back to when it all began:
In 1722 a small vinegar distillery came into being in Berlin, which 40 years later would came into the possession of the Kühne family. Two generations later, Carl Ernst Wilhelm Kühne took over the vinegar distillery and was one of the first to bank on a major innovation: By introducing the Schützenbach rapid-generator process, he accomplished the expansion from lower-middle class trade into a modern industrial production. Fermentation takes place in purely organically in huge oak or pitch pine acetators. The results were impressive – even to the Prussian royal court! And so His Majesty, King Wilhem I, appointed Kühne as a supplier to the Royal Court in 1876.
From this time there followed years of expansion. Kühne grew! New factories were built – new production processes and new products were developed. After the caesura, in 1945 Kühne switched headquarters to Hamburg. The redevelopment was pursued with fervour, determination and the right flair for the new period. The conversion to successful brand manufacturer was complete.
Vinegar has always been one of our most successful products. Over the years we have also developed sophisticated refining processes, gentle manufacturing procedures and preservation methods. New recipes and products relating to vinegar and many finely seasoned delicacies followed: 1896 Mustard, 1903 gherkins, 1957 red cabbage, 1973 salad dressing, 2008 the balsamic creme "Balsamissimo" and 2011 gherkin relish. And of course it never stops! We are always on the lookout for new ideas to make gourmets and connoisseurs happy.
This is what we believe in:
We have clear priorities – to our customers, our employees and the environment. As a company we act according to clear principles. These determine all aspects of our business: from development and production to sales and environmental issues.
